definitely agree,well put , although I'd add that those lines are often blurred and that is where the problem comes, sacred as gut feeling is often intertwined with a (self-)imposed ritual in pre-literate societies to the extent that, understandably, many things were (and are still ) done 'just because', having lost their origins and meaning. In a way, we have theoretically more freedom of choice now, although we also have plenty of (self-)imposed rite in our lives making our acts sacred (or so we think). Not much has changed in that respect. Sacred is a global phenomenon.
