for jung what was sacred was what led to 'individuation' - that is what led to the greater expression of the uniqueness of each particular psyche. Setting aside the obvious danger of that - the 'i, me, mine' / 'because you're worth it' culture of big brother orientated celebrity obsession, that explains to me the desire to firstly define your life distinctly from a chaotic random world, then to seperate your culture and tribe from others and then to have a sense of yourself distinct from that group itself.
