That sounds very reasonable, but we can go wrong if we look at everything from the viewpoint of "they were quite like us" Flensing? Bones arranged in groups of skulls, leg bones etc rather than one body in one burial?
American Indians were condemned because they mutilated the corpses of their slain enemies. Palefaces saw this as atrocities, disrespect and violation. Indians saw it as respect and neccessary to release the spirits of honoured enemies.
"Just like us" means that we view others from our own cultural standpoint.
