Ireland has limited rock art that is known about. The UK has far more of your classic 'rock art'. What Ireland does excell in is the passage tomb art, which is significantly different.
Some rock art has been destroyed as recently as the 1980's. I know of one field where several pieces were dynamited because they were 'in the way'. Some has been allowed to re-bury itself below the turf. Some has been sold to the Japanese, who pay big bucks.
However, there must be shed loads beneath all the peat that won't see the light of day for a long time.
I still want to know how they date rock art ....
