That's the argument that a person uses when they're making art and not selling it. It could be true about the later graffiti - the little scratches on top. They may even have been made in semi darkness.

The original carvings were done by a journeyman, I'm sure. It's weird to look at other carved stones from nearby and to recognise the same motifs and to consider it was the same person, all those years ago, that may have carved both.

There was copper smelting going on nearby and I think the stonecarver's main activity was in carving stone moulds for the casting process. Finding that pile of wasters, broken moulds and slag will be a treasure trove. It's like a bug - been bitten.

Most of the copper mine is unexplored even.
