I was thinking of something I saw on the telly once about how isotopes of certain radioactive elements (possibly strontium?) are deposited from rain water and that they might accumulate on the surface of rocks. Theoretically this would mean that the more recent a surface, the less the radioactivity. Problem is, the more I thought about it, the Prog was reffering to teeth. (Argh! Denkeist thoughts!). Anyhoo, the half life of strontium would probably be too short (i've no idea exactly what it is) for surfaces that are millenia old.

Any links/refs for thermoluminescence?
