It's not that a skeptic's mind is closed to new ideas, usually quite the contrary - it needs a thoughtful, enquiring mind to have grasped an idea sufficiently well to deliver forceful counter arguments. No, it's that certain concepts are pure conjecture and yet the believers present them as though they were proven fact and will not be engaged in any discussion that involves having to justify their position. It's this that the skeptics take issue with, not the concept.

If someone can provide reasonable justification and at least some evidence to support their belief, then I have no problem in taking them seriously.
