Foam earplugs are useless for noise reduction anyway, though - they're only intended to be used for swimmimg or flying. For noise reduction you need wax ones, and - as pointed out above - they just cut anything under 22db without significantly altering the frequency range at all.
And for me, as with elegant chaos' bandmate, the point is that I have severe tinnitus in one ear, and mild tinnitus in the other, and given my love for music I'd prefer not to go totally deaf before I shuffle off this mortal.
