Just listening now.
Rather good, actually. For sure, they're not breaking any new ground - but then it'd be unrealistic to expect them to come crashing back to earth with a zeitgeist-defining masterpiece this late in the day. I'm left with a similar feeling that I had when listening to the reformed Dinosaur Jr's albums. It's like unpexpectedly bumping into an old friend whom you haven't seen for years - or possibly decades - only to find they've barely changed, but the essence of what made you enjoy their company in the first place is still there, even if you've both moved on somewhat.
So a cautious thumbs up from me. I'm wondering if these are all new recordings, or whether some of them date back from the album they started recording for Island but never finished?
