I can't remember who it was, but somebody on site told me that the alignment of the model had been cocked up and that the replica was actually about 5 degrees out of line. That's why they resorted to using the lamps. If you watch the bit where Kate is there at the real sunrise, they didn't show the view of the sun down the main axis. Of course that could have been because it might damage the camera, but I also noticed that the patch of light between the shadows of the sarsens was at a distinct angle to the axis.
