Steve, I totally endorse everything you said about how important/urgent it is to get Stone Rowing well and truly established as Gordon's concept. Once he's done that he's fireproof. In fact if I had developed the idea, and was younger, I'd see it as the basis of a lucrative career, demonstrations, publications, media etc. And then going for the trilithon erection as a natural progression of the same thing is a perfect strategy.
Any of your Plan B options would be good, though the absolute ideal would be a friendly farmer just outside the Avebury World Heritage Site with a big sarsen in his hedgerow. It's very frustrating, there are zillions of them. I mentioned something like that previously, thinking one of us was bound to find a willing land owner on our travels but no-one has responded as yet.
