Yes indeed, but the speculation about how the person could work out the real axe by various "conventional" means isn't central to the point.

If the world's best axe faker made modern fakes that looked, sounded and felt like the real one and indeed were indistinguishable from it by all conventional means yet someone still picked out the real one then you'd have to think they were doing something beyond the conventional. But would they, that's the question?
