I'm guessing that a fake plastic axe (purple or otherwise) is going to be pretty easy to distinguish from a stone one, but if it was a box containing a mix of old axes and newly made stone axes, then I would agree with you in general.

But even there a newly made axe could presumably be distinguished by touch by an expert, but because of the differing textures of newly knapped and old stone, not because of any inherent energy the axes contain.

The point being that there are ways a blindfolded person might be able to find the "real" axe in the box, rather than it being due to that person's special ability to sense energy.
