It may be a "white coat" problem .Nobody but a handful understood Thom's archaeastronomy , the figures were hardly checked .Most were happy to accept it as it showed how non barabric the builders were .It's only when you investigate these claims that they are shown to be wanting . It will always be there they even have a festival for it ,"Megalithomania ." The fortunate thing is ,we can do that todayand that's why you don't hear too much about universal measures for cup marks anymore .We have lots of figures for markings and it shows empirically that there is no common measure .There's lots of stuff to fill that void though .
