I wouldn't say it wasn't worth bothering with unless your going to devote your life to it. I quite like having a stone carving I made myself as an ornament instead of the mass produced buddha type of thing I've seen in friends' houses. It may not be perfect, but it's mine. Also for presents - cost of a stone you found £0-00 - cost of stone carving drill bits £9.00 - look on their faces as they say "what the feck is it" - priceless.

Here's a pic of one I did - not great but it looks good under my bonsai.
