Another PSAS paper(2006) but available online yet was TN Todds "the aerodynmics of carved stone balls " he reckons they were uswed as weapons like a bolas mmmmm.

Mark Edmonds also did a paper called " Their use is wholly unknown "
in the collection "Vessels for the ancestors "
