It's true that the story of his invention of Gothic architecture is fraught with oddities. He supposedly worked with an architect whose name was never mentioned and who may have guided him in working out the style. He was totally into Dionysian light mysticism. The whole idea of the style seems to have had no precedents at all. Certainly an exceptional person.
