Sure there were some good acts, Ian!

I wasn't counting PIL or The Slits as although they were around then they had come out of the punk scene a few years earlier and were already established by '79. Ditto Wire (more or less London), Siouxsie, The Only Ones and The Sound.

23 Skidoo's Seven Songs was great, and Linx made at least one pop gem (though I thought Light Of The World were a bit bland personally).

But most of the great UK acts for me came from Scotland or the North West/Yorkshire: TX, early Bunnymen and Wah, The Fall, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Soft Cell, Josef K, Associates, etc. Or in the case of The Nightingales, the Midlands. These were artists trying to be themselves. Not some watered down Led Zep!

As for the Fire Engines...Discord is one of the great tracks of its time!!

How did AC/DC making an album available through Wal Mart lead us here then, Ian? ; )
