"not owning a TV is a 'holier than thou' attitude"

There's loads of people come on like that to me when I say I haven't got a TV. I don't agree at all! I tried to own a TV, and it just sat in the corner never being watched for ages so in the end I got rid of it. There's nothing holier than thou about it, its just that I find different media (music, film, books, radio...) more up my street. I don't think it removes you from society at all - I find that people have loads to talk about, and not just what was on the box last night. Not liking the TV doesn't make you weird, and it doesn't mean that you're trying to say that you're better than anyone else. It just means that the TV don't do it for you. Its sad that people always jump to those conclusions about people who don't own TVs.
