I was thinking about Alton Priors.

Why would the Norman overlords, built a Church on a Standing Stone Circle when the Saxons Build a Church, just a hundred metres away or so on what, nothing?

If the Church really wanted to subject pagan sites to it's control.. Then the Saxons would have been the ones to have done it, wouldn't they?
