Aye, your probably right there tsc :-( I don’t know what the answer is then. You could put a sign up saying something like, ‘Please do not walk any further along the barrow’ but that is extra signage, and if signs and fences round Silbury don’t stop people climbing it something similar at WKLB is hardly going work.

Perhaps a bit more social responsibility by us lot is one answer. I’ve asked people not to climb the stones at Avebury loads of times (one plonker was actually standing on top of one of the Cove stones!) and not to burn stuff in WKLB, and I know others here do the same. What is needed though is a bit more official backup - ie clear EH or NT signs that we could point to if less responsible people are up to no good. From memory there’s nothing at WKLB asking people not to leave or burn stuff there, when something along those lines could easily be incorporated into, or by, the existing sign(s).
