What we don’t have in this country (with the exception of well dressing perhaps) is an unbroken tradition of ‘outdoor’ offerings, and the care and responsibility that comes with such a tradition. Visitors to other countries (especially non-Western countries) often find that there is a tradition there and that it is almost always well managed. There’s a bit here about the Votive offerings and Dondo Yaki tradition in Japan if anyone’s interested.
