sorry for the late reply, Fitz, been rather busy and I still have to finish reading this whole thread!

I totally agree, this way of life is so vital in some parts of Europe STILL nowadays (or until recently). The pastoralists still in basic opposition to the settlers, to urban life.

Not sure whether you will see this but I would be pleased to know what specific parts of the UK you were talking about before.
