On a related topic have you tried the music of the recently departed Johnathan Harvey? The collection called Body Mandala and the Bird Concerto with Plainsong record might be up your classical street.

I have the Naxos recording too - all they had in the classical dept of HMV Oxford St the other day. I first heard it on youtube but can't recall whether that was the Naxos version and given I listened on my laptop and not HiFi I wouldn't be able compare.
Not heard of Harvey - will check him out. I also want to investigate Takemitsu.
