This week's heavy rotation record: Grails - Black Tar Prophecies Vols. 4-6. More sublime tracks from one of my favourite bands. Probably not quite the masterpiece of Deep Politics (to be expected given it's a collection of EPs and new tracks), with one or two filler tracks but Self-Hypnosis is magnificent and subtler tracks have grown on me. Some new downloads: Aidan Baker - Aneira: Beatiful drone piece, all sounds improbably from an acoustic guitar. V.A. - Cryoshpere. A Glacial Movements compilation - an entire record label dedicated to releasing soundscapes inspired by ice! The Aidan Baker akbum is also released on this label - Aneira is Welsh for snow apparently. Nadja & Vampillia - The Perfect World. An expanded reissue of a release from last year that I missed. Other stuff: Teeth of the Sea - Master. Superb Hills - Master Sleeps. V good. Urthona - The Elements Rage. Blissful Carlton Melton - Always Even. Rocking Machinefabriek - Vloed Lou Reed - Berlin Classical: Rautavaara: Symphony No.7: Angel of Light. Enjoying this piece composed in 1994. Rautavaara: Canctus Arcticus. Orchestral music and taped arctic birds. Berlioz: Grande Messe des Morts (Requiem) performed by LSO at St. Paul's Cathedral. Magic - would love to see this live but will settle for the pieces on the current Berlioz LSO season - off to see Faust at the Barbican tonight (got a 3 concert deal so £8.50 each night!!).

This week, we have mostly been involved in a mission to Planet Monganaut. -- Vessels - Helioscope (Limited Bonus Album) http://www.discogs.com/Vessels-Helioscope/release/3092198 Quality 'post rock' - first heard by chance in session on Radio 6. The first two tracks are mint. -- Chrome - No Humans Allowed (CD Version) http://www.discogs.com/Chrome-No-Humans-Allowed/release/102288 Featuring the full length and full-on version of the 'Big Dipper' tune. Deadly. -- Heldon - Stand By http://www.discogs.com/Heldon-Stand-By/release/588617 French electronic guerillas. Richard Pinhas in savage mode. -- Doctor Mix And The Remix - Wall Of Noise http://www.discogs.com/Doctor-Mix-And-The-Remix-Wall-Of-Noise/release/528296 Eric Debris' garage punk psych covers band. -- Tarantula Hawk - Tarantula Hawk http://www.discogs.com/Tarantula-Hawk-Tarantula-Hawk/release/349231 US heavy space rock that might be described as what White Hills might sound like if Hugh Banton was their keyboard wizard and main man, or an ultra-heavy collision of VDGG (minus Jaxon and Hammill) with early ELP and Red period Crimson. No vocals, power electronics with a pounding bass. -- Archaia - Archaia http://www.discogs.com/Archa%C3%AFa-Archa%C3%AFa/release/3497993 French Prog/Zeuhl/Space rock. Unique sound. -- Richard Pinhas & Peter Frohmader - Fossil Culture http://www.discogs.com/Peter-Frohmader-Richard-Pinhas-Fossil-Culture/release/1014116 I guess that this counts as RIO. Dark, intense soundscapes reminiscent of the heaviest Frippertronics. -- Guapo - Five Suns http://www.discogs.com/Guapo-Five-Suns/release/674125 Awesome bass-driven RIO/post rock. This album has the potential to blow speakers; think Red by King Crimson and intensify by an order of magnitude! --

Hadn't played this in a long time Fab, off-kilter, occasionally glitchy, electronica with, as the name might suggest, lots and lots of luvly 303 style squelchings; a sound I will forever love and remember as sound-tracking some pretty exhilarating times. Have a nice week! x
