Been fan of both since mid-70's. Both affected me deeply.

I've read interviews by Brock and Allen, both claiming to be mystified by the way the two bands are often bracketed together. Apparently this is a British thing - they are seen as very different bands in France for instance.

As others have said, its a mood thing. Sometimes only "Magnu" or "Psychedelic Warlords" will do, other times it has to be something ambient and dreamy by Gong.

Both suffered with poorer quality stuff in the last 10 years, but for sheer breadth of styles and output, it has to be Gong.

Both still great live acts, especially since Hillage is back with Gong.
