Well I didn't ask to be given the dubious honour of this topic, but yes FZ in the mid 80's did monkey about considerably with the master tapes of the Verve albums, draft in musicians to replace the bass and drums to universal hatred

I saw an old interview clip on Youtube in which he said that had to be done due to 'bad storage' of the master tapes.
Hmmm.

Can't see him being so careless, zealot he was and all.

Anyway, FWIW, I like some Zappa, don't care for 'guitar mastery' (can't stand it in fact), but do like the way he slices through 'Hot Rats' though, and mainly early things, and even some of the more 'annoying' stuff. Was 'Hot Rats' the first ever to use the hip-hop beat? Had to be one of the first surely. Don't think even James Brown was doing it quite in that way then. Oh and The Yellow Shark is really good too.

There, said my bit!
