What you seem to be reacting to is the idea that you are stupid. No one has ever said that. People say stupid things all the time, but it doesn't imply that they are of the same intelligence as their comment.

I'm not suggesting that you have to like the music of Frank Zappa. Even though I hold him in high regard, I understand that his music can be difficult and doesn't appeal to everyone. What I am suggesting is that if you have an interest in western music, especially that of the last 50 years, chosing to be ignorant of the influence and achievements of Zappa is a mistake.
