The Smiths - Strangeways Here We Come
(Just more entertaining and musically innovative than The Queen Is Dead to my ears. Unfortuantely this opinion makes me a pariah in some circles.)

It's gaining reputation all the time. It's actually Marr's favourite album, and I do agree that it is their best. Q.I.D has about three or four great tunes on it (the two singles, title track, and There is a light), but the rest is a load of turgid balls. I think that album gave them there most TOTP appearances, so something populist is going down there.
The Smiths were my first true musical love, and thankfully they were something I could stick with. However, the production on much of what they do is so eighties, in the same way The Cocteau Twins are eighties. The drums sound like rain hitting a tin can. But I adore them, although these days, Mozzer needs to give it up.
