In the interest of balance, there should really be a thread covering this too. This Heat - First Album (When I went to a gig recently with a group of friends during the pre-gig chat This Heat got mentioned. I said I thought their first album was better than Deceit. The reaction was as if I'd taken a dump on the table. Also got a similar reaction when in a record shop once waiting to pay and someone was asking the assistant what Deceit was like. I butted in to say I preferred the first album and got a dirty look from the surly member of staff. Deceit is just too overtly song-y and political to my ears in comparison to the revelation of the first album.) The Smiths - Strangeways Here We Come (Just more entertaining and musically innovative than The Queen Is Dead to my ears. Unfortuantely this opinion makes me a pariah in some circles.) Bowie - Lodger (Regarded as a sonic turd by many, I love this. OK, it's not as stunning as the other two Berlin albums, but I really like it's unhinged qualities and it's got enough good sing-along-a-Bowie moments to make it a great cracked pop record.) |

Velvet Underground - Squeeze (Not a patch on the four proper VU albums but I still kinda like it).

Cat Stevens "Catch Bull at Four" and Beatles Sgt Pepper. I think I like these because I listened to them constantly between the ages of 0 and 5 (my mum gave me a walkman to try and keep me quiet). Listening to them now pushes some sort of regression button in my head like nothing else...

The entire output of Kiss. Madonna's singles. And the last few albums Some of the Sugarbabes' singles Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. It's ace! Juke Box Hero by Foreigner. Run To You . Bryan Adams Lily Allen's album. Duke by Genesis. Just about right in prog vs pop balance. The Bluetones' stuff Some of Marilyn Manson's stuff, especially Mechanical Animals.

As a young fella it was 'Rock 'n' Roll with Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers' with was pretty much derided by all my friends (well, both of them!) Nowadays I have to admit to being partial to a little bit of Rancid... (haven't any friends anymore so I'm alright on this front!)

Those seven Moody Blues albums. After thirty years practice, I can finally listen to "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock N Roll Band)" without cringing. Much. Grand Funk Railroad "I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home)". I like the guitar solo in "We're An American Band", too.
