Patchy album, imo. Morbid Tales and old Hellhammer is better.

Sure, you can't argue with the early stuff. The true origins of post-Venom European death metal, each a classic. But Pandemonium, there's something about it. Like the idealism behind it is cosmically far-reaching (moon landings, Babylon, Carthage deserts, death, the night sky, dancing), but the delivery is ancient and archaic in character. It's as if they were shaking off their shackles and saying "Look what we can be, if you'll let us", and we did let them, and they unfortunately imploded.
