Re: For Ceremonial purposes?

What exactly has modern science provided by way of improving our understanding of the purpose of why stone circles were constructed? A recent 'Sky at Night' from Stonehenge, presented by eminent scientists, concluded with the phrase 'we'll probably never know why it was built'. Astrological allignment being a common feature of stone cirlces certainly helps us understand that an astrological element is inherent in them, and that they had meaning for the human condition can be supposed from the effort expended in their construction. I introduced the idea of the soul, as the most ancient of human artefacts are of people with large bellies, usually dismissed as fertility symbols, though gender is not specific ie not all have big tits. It was a suggestion for further consideration and an example of what modern science doesn't consider.
