Mountain hare bones between 114,000 and 131,000 years old have been found in the Joint Mitnor cave in Devon, so they've been making a good dinner for some time. I wonder why they never took when reintroduced to Snowdonia, and in other areas thrive.
They are far less common in the west of Scotland maybe the area around the Cheviots might have been more appropriate they seem to prefer heather to grass .
