I don't think it's necessarily true that all conservatives lack compassion though. I think it's just that alot of them have a different idea of what helps the poor (i.e. charity.) Going back to that 'conservative punk' I know (Bobby Steele), he was saying in a My Space blog post he was helping out a fellow punk who was homeless, although that same punk scorned him later over politics.

I mean, I still feel uncomfortable with most conservative politics and stuff, but at least I'm now trying to be a bit more tolerant of people with different views. Giantleech is just a sneering psycho unwilling to debate anyone in a serious manner.
