Except that's not the argument... "we might just as well litter it some more".
The argument is actually a simple choice...
If you want an electricity grid that is sustainable and won't poison our great-grandkids then you accept that wind farms will have to be built in certain areas.
Otherwise you either accept life without a grid, or you kill a bunch of Arabs to get hold of their oil, or you build 30-year nuke stations and leave whatever mess they may or may not create for someone else to clear up.
Nobody is saying "we might as well" erect windfarms. Just that so long as the demand exists for electricity, the aesthetic damage done by the things should be considered a smaller price to pay than - say - resource wars or lumbering future generations with tons of lethal waste.
