Well it doesnt really damage the stones to walk on the avenue. And its pretty likely thats what the avenue was for. But (in much the same way) if it was decended upon by hundreds of people all at once I'm sure there would be a certain amount of damamge done. Same as anything I Would say; Be as respectful as you can.

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that the 'roadway' between the stones had lowered over the years and the stones now becoming 'banked' up.
