You're probably right, as said webmaster seems to be of non-UK origin. So they might view the whole concept of metal detecting as anathema, and suggestions that people might go waving a detector and trowel/spade at an ancient monument might be viewed as nothing more than a poor-taste joke.

If they're still hosting comments that are pro MDing at Silbury, drop them a line, they were quite decent about the climbing issue.
