The perimeter path really is a cracking idea. So simple, but very effective.
It strikes an important psychological balance. By being 'allowed' to be so close to the monument, I think a persons respect for it will automatically increase.
It is no longer a distant thing, unable to be engaged with.

Next step is getting the beaurocrats at English Heritage to get off their butts and do it – open letters here and elsewhere maybe.
Are we talking about a perimeter path above the ditch and within touching distance of the hill or one set back further? Silbury needs to be viewed from further back I would have thought.
