Great British Holiday EP's - Darren Hayman
As the title suggests this is a collection of ep’s. They probably worked better that way as a whole album of these charming and, at times, humourous vignettes can get a bit wearing, but he does have a nice way with words. “I’m looking for turquoise formica, I’m looking for Twiggy or someone just like her” he sings (or something like that!) in his ode to 1976. Best track though is Holiday Way with its DIY Beach Boys harmonies and a guitar solo that is so angular it’s kind of ridiculous!

Darren Hayman is ace, his forthcoming album 'The Violence' about the Essex Witch Trials looks like being another leap forward in his already amazing songwriting. The first two albums in the Essex Trilogy (Pram Town and Essex Arms) are also fantastic. Although if you found GBHEPs wearing, what did you think of the 31 track marathon January Songs?
