Elitest?

Being the awful collector of things limited that I am (I just can't resist something if it is likely to disappear off the shelves anytime soon) I'm really tempted, but somehow this just doesn't chime right with all the recent revolutionary stuff - or is it just me?

Maybe he's going to get all the rich fans into the gig and then do a Robin Hood thang...

Well, if someone can afford to spend £204 on a White Hills cdr, then surely they can afford to spend it on a book. Not saying it's any one of us who bought that item, but someone did.

I'm not saying that people can't afford it. But not everyone can, can they?

And no, it wasn't me that got the White Hills CDR. If it's the one I'm thinking of I've already got it :-)

Not quite sure what you're getting at btw.

1, the Wire article states the title as COMPENDIUM not COPEDIUM (which sounds both neat and boring).

2, if this is some nice big hefty volume, could it not include a reprint of KRAUTROCKSAMPLER?

(3, leather? really? Rather outre for a veggie, non?)

The box set will contain a beautiful leather-bound book (every copy signed and numbered) plus 2 CDs compiled by Julian and produced by ACE Records which are designed to be listened to whilst reading.
Every box set will include a ticket for an intimate, exclusive evening with Julian at Rough Trade East in London on Thursday 21st June (Summer Solstice). Only limited edition holders will have access to the evening which promises to be both weird and wonderful in equal measure!

The book itself comprises of a collection of album reviews and themed track samplers that lay out an alternative history of the last six decades of popular music, written by the visionary musician, antiquarian and musicologist.
The result is a feast of obscure and neglected masterworks; Krautrock, motorik and post-punk, stoner and doom metal, occasionally even jazz, spoken word and hair metal.
Cope is the perfect guide to this novel terrain: impeccably informed, passionate, insightful and deeply funny.
The Copendium is his reimagining of a useful canon of popular music, and it is set to become required reading.

I wasn't suggesting that you have money to burn, or that you bought that WH cd, I was suggesting that some of his fans do have money, and they are willing to pay high prices for rare items. Ironically, it's because of his reviews and books that some of these items are fetching large sums.

I'm all in favour of him having a boutique edition of the book, the only thing that would irk me is that if these cds were not available outside of the limited edition.

1. It's Copendium (but I'm not surprised some spellchecker would change it to Compendium, probably the same one that changed deicide to decide)

2. I'm not holding my breath about it containing all of KRS, but it could very well contain bits of it, or reworked version of certain chapters. I'm guessing it's mostly compiled from his writings on this site and in certain magazines.

3. Maybe it's some special kind of vegan leather and I'd make a joke here but risk the wrath of the vegan debate.
