I bet they thought maybe they could get played on the radio! "Space" was really hip in the early 70's, and Magma is all about Cosmic maaan.

But what's great is what they were trying to do there (whatever the motivation) was boil the "Magma Essence" down into 3-4 minute chunks of catchiness!
