I spoke with someone, a couple of years back, who lives in Lewis, and they were - understandably - against the proposed (somewhat massive) wind farm. One of the reasons was that the turbines can't safely function if the wind is too strong. Which it so often is up there. Also (and it may be obvious by now that I've not read much of this thread!) I seem to remember that the power generated was largely for the mainland. So I, personally, thought this particular wind farm was less than ideal. And I love a wind farm, me.
