On our first visit to the Outer Hebrides, we took a guided tour with Margaret Curtis.
The tour started in her garden, where she has several stone- moving experiments rigged up. Some are familiar, and some not so.
I have to admit that one method in particular, consisting of various a-frames ropes and pulleys - although it plainly worked - seemed far too cumbersome and time-consuming to be considered efficient by modern standards.
That said, the mantra kept popping into my head: any means necessary.
If the method works, then it's perfectly feasible that it was at least considered by those who had to move the stones! :)
