The numbers presented were not exactly contoversial ones, and presented in extremely fair context. The fact that the rights and wrongs so often spin off on a tangential argument about numbers is precisely why it was done that way. This was NOT an "exaggeration" piece, it was intended to highlight there was a big problem, which there is, irrespective of exact numbers.

27 holes an hour (no mention that this wont produce 27 recordable items)

No, nor was that the point, it was the fact that holes themselves are an additional problem if they're made by irresponsible people, which again, is hardly an attack or an exaggeration, but true and common ground.
