Well 1750 detectorists reporting about 17 finds each are PAS's figures, so they're all we have to go on. There may be a backlog of finds so we can hope for the figures of finds and detectorists to reflect that as they catch up, but the underlying figures of actual people reporting to PAS is what matters.

On that basis, after a number of years and millions of pounds, the figures aren't unadjacent to a national disgrace are they?

£850 spent on each recording detectorist each year? And all the rest running around bleating it's only voluntary so we won't bother just yet?

C'mon! That can't be right can it? How many more years and millions of pounds should the government spend on trying to stimulate their sense of rightness?
