Correct.

However, legal right and being a Good Thing don't necessarily equate.
You have a legal right to jump the bus queue ergo, jumping the bus queue is a Good Thing, right?

I won't say more as if you go to PAS Forum you'll see I have expanded on that theme somewhat (and consistently praised recording detectorists) over 440 postings, and have now given up as it was becoming a habit...

(and no-one got convinced anyway).
