Lots of people have lots of different views about the place; does it matter who's right or wrong. Its a magical place for what ever reason.

You're so right, Scousemaiden! Every time I go to Avebury, I love it more and more... I haven't been for a few months now, so am long overdue...

It does attract an eccentric crowd (oh, alright then - piss-heads and acid casualties!), but if that's not yer bag, then there's plenty of nice places to go for a wander using the village as a base...

It's not the place, it's (a small minority of) the people. It's a beautiful place and I'll still see ya there!

As for the flying saucers/dragons/time travellers - be nice to think it's all real, but with no evidence, it's hard to swallow, innit? ;o)
