Yes, I was a bit puzzled by that. The drawing was a little ambiguous as to whether the angle was actually the bottom of the stone or just another case of "not excavated". If the latter it's possible that the stone extends into an unmapped, deeper part of the hole.

I intend to return to the library with lots of tracing paper and an couple of hours to spare instead of the 10 minutes that I had this afternoon. Bearing in mind your comments, I hope to get a better understanding of the data.
