Re: Average Age?

In order to make this trip down memory lane relevant to thread topic I might mention that the Atkinson files, miserably few and poor that they are, do include a very enlightening and somewhat charming collection of letters from former Marlborough College schoolboys that climbed over the door to the 1849 tunnel when a collpase occurred above the entrance and then crawled along the tunnel into the catacombs cut into the middle. One H.C.Brentnall recalls great sarsens hanging from the roof void. These were not mentioned by the others funnily, but Brentnall of course by the time of the 68 tunnel had been a head honcho with the Wilts Arch & NH Soc and mater at MC for donkeys years, and written numerous papers and books on local history and archaeo. Whether this makes his memory any more reliable I am not sure, but his recollection does to some extent demand respect.

Sorry, back to egg boxes and Muffin the Mule...
