That's a groundless and silly accusation, and hardly worth a response, except that it enables an important point to be made: no-one is against research or thinks it's not valuable. But it has a cost and must be balanced against that.
Every time the research dividend is enthused about the downside must also be expressed, else the enthusiasm is meaningless. So far, EH and those that have promoted research have accentuated the positive. It's not enough.
